本研究之研究目的為透過對Moto GP虛擬迷社群中性別權力關係的解構,探索女性賽車迷在陽剛的運動領域中,遭遇的各種經驗與可能的處境。研究背景來自作者日常生活的觀察。並提出兩個研究問題,首先在現有以男性為主的賽車虛擬迷社群中,女性的迷經驗為何?是否因其性別身份有所不同? 其二,虛擬迷社群提供女性賽車迷什麼樣的機會與挑戰?虛擬迷社群中是否有依性別產生的權力結構?在面對虛擬社群中的性別權力結構時,女性賽車迷如何應對?研究方法選取深度訪談與文本分析法,結果發現在賽車虛擬迷社群中,女性賽車迷會因為性別身分而遭遇與男性不同的待遇。面對虛擬社群中的性別權力結構時,女性賽車迷會產生三種不同的回應策略。其方式

分別為:離開社群,對不公平現象表達反感與抗拒;選擇沉默,忽視針對性別的騷擾行為;與表現中性,試圖與女性既定印象切割。本研究認為網路虛擬迷社群的特性確實提供女性賽車迷優於日常生活參與運動社群的管道。但透過研究觀察,即便脫離了實體運動社群的規範,其規則某種程度仍難以避免地延伸至虛擬空間中。故本研究認為,虛擬迷社群能夠削減一定程度女性參與實體運動社群的困難性。但觀察討論區兩性的相處情形,仍能發現因性別產生不同的待遇,故本研究對於虛擬迷社群是否能夠對女性參與運動有所助益持較保守的態度。
