Nearly a century on, the operational performance of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) on the Western Front during the First World War is still a hotly debated subject. The dominant perception is one of a conflict characterized by mud, trenches and futility, presided over by incompetent comman

ders. But over the last thirty years a different view has emerged and gained increasing prominence. Many historians have argued that the BEF deserves more credit for the wartime learning curve it underwent in evolving from a small professional force into a mass citizen army, which helped it to end t

he war victorious. The BEF has become the subject of even more detailed research, as historians have sought to investigate all aspects of its operational practice. This book enters into this debate by taking a detailed look at a single infantry division, one of the BEF's vital constituent parts. It

focuses on the 56th (London) Division, a first-line Territorial division that served continuously on the Western Front between February 1916 and November 1918. By focusing on and comparing three key battles in the Division's service - the Battle of Gommecourt on 1 July 1916, the Battle of Arras on 9

April 1917 and the Battle of Albert on 23 August 1918 - this study provides detailed insight into 56th Division's tactical development. It suggests that by the last year of the war, 56th Division had developed sophisticated offensive tactics born out of years of hard-fought experience. This study u

tilizes a range of archival sources, including the official documents of war diaries, operational orders and battle reports. But it also references the private papers of the officers and men who served in 56th Division, gaining the insight of individuals who witnessed and took part in these events a

t first hand. The voices that emerge from these sources are a testament to the dedication of many of the men who served with the Division and who helped it to develop increasingly effective fighting methods, as was also the case with the BEF as a whole. The 56th (London) Division therefore deserves

to be remembered for its contribution to a painful, but ultimately victorious war effort. Matt Brosnan was educated at the University of Birmingham, where he studied History and English at undergraduate level and then Twentieth Century British History at postgraduate level. His postgraduate research

was on the tactical development of 56th Division on the Western Front, which has been extended to form the present study. Since 2006 he has worked at the Imperial War Museum in London, initially as a Curator in the Department of Art, which holds the largest collection of modern British art outside

the Tate. He curated displays on the Hall of Remembrance art scheme of the First World War and Neo-Romantic art of the Second World War period. He currently works as a Historian in the Research and Information Department, where he is researching forthcoming exhibitions on Frontline Medicine and also

for the centenary of the First World War. A Considerable Achievement is his first publication. He was born and lives in north London.

當代攝影書(Photobook)作為⼀種迴返在影像與觀看之間的物件,透過創作者主導以及編輯與視覺、設計師的協助,建⽴⼀連串轉譯至印刷油墨的視覺敘述,將內容與形式組構成⼀個完整的美學經驗,邀請觀者(讀者)在「時間、空間、身體」三者互為主體的運動中與觀念相遇,遂使攝影書與繪畫、雕塑、戲劇以及電影⼀樣成為獨⽴⾃主(autonome)的藝術創作格式;⽽此概念與源⾃1960年代的藝術家書籍(Artists’ books)的源起有著密不可分的關係。此系列分享主題將透過後者的系譜考究與前者參照,規劃了不同創作「類型」與「國別」代表共⼗⼆講,試圖加以釐清攝影書的實踐範疇與當代輪廓。

書籍本來就是做為一個蒐集,或者是歸納、歸檔的重要物件,攝影書跟檔案的結合我們不難理解,但有意思的是檔案通常是不被公開的,而攝影書則是一個邁向公眾的出版物,因此這兩者的結合就會產生出一種矛盾的張力,這就是攝影師與合作夥伴一起要來揭露或呈現的重要觀點。這類型的攝影書通常文字量會遠超過一般攝影書的想像,因此這些攝影書也會有「Photo-Text Book」的名稱。檔案常使用的厚殼封面、封底及內頁模造紙、環狀裝幀都是檔案典型的樣貌,而攝影作品則會印刷在異於檔案用紙的塗佈紙材,來突顯照片的精細與層次。

許多學者想創業,但他們並不了解大學在資源方面的能力。我們的研究確定了大學促進學術企業家的能力。到目前為止,我們描述了五種大學能力,它們是知識與技能、商業指導、孵化服務、創業環境和讚助。我們還在五個主要功能中描述了另外 10 個子功能。除了能力之外,我們還提到了大學能力的發展。正如我們提到的,所有大學幾乎都專注於學術創業,並支持學術創業者進行創業。在2018年之前的台灣,教授不能開辦自己的企業並發展分拆。但現在,從2018年開始,教授們可以創業,甚至可以利用不同的大學資源進行創業。現在幾乎新生的教授都想參與創業活動。這是大學支持他們直到每個階段完成的能力。我們還在文獻綜述中添加了大學能力的類型

、學術創業和影響學術創業的政策。此外,在本研究中,我們描述了大學學術創業能力的三個階段,以深入了解大學能力及其發展。這樣創業者就可以在創業的各個階段比較自己的資源配置。通過這項研究,企業家可以比較他們在創業各個階段的資源配置,並能夠了解大學促進學術創業的能力。這些大學能力來源於不同學術企業家的經驗。此外,這些能力是在大學中不同利益相關者貢獻的支持下發展起來的。

Modern architecture's evolution during the interwar period represents one of the most radical turns in design history. While the role of new materials and production modes in this development is beyond dispute, of equal importance was the emergence of a distinctly modern physical culture. Largely

unacknowledged today, new conceptions of body and movement had a profound influence on how architects designed not only public spaces like the gymnasium or the stadium, but also domestic spaces. Hannes Meyer, Swiss modernist and director of Bauhaus in Dessau from 1928 to 1930, colorfully encapsulat

ed this phenomenon in his 1926 essay The New World as "the advanced school of collective feeling." In their new book, Matthew Kennedy and Nile Greenberg explore the impact of physical culture during the 1920s and '30s on the thinking of some of modern architecture's most influential figures. Using a

rchival photographs, diagrams, and redrawn plans, they reconstruct an obscure constellation of domestic projects by Marcel Breuer, Charlotte Perriand, Richard Neutra, Franco Albini, and others. They argue that the impact of sport on modern architecture was a discursive phenomenon, best understood by

going beyond a mere typological reading of the stadium or the gymnasium, to an examination of how gymnastic equipment and other trappings of physical culture were folded into domestic space. 客家博物館數位典藏詮釋資料欄位探討:以客家文化資產數位網為例

博物館肩負著保存、傳承人類歷史文明、文化知識的重責大任,隨著網際網路的發展,文物數位化成了文化資產保存的重要方法。以保存客家文化為主要宗旨的客家博物館也逐步開展數位典藏,並有顯著的成果。不過客家博物館在數位典藏詮釋資料的發展與學術討論皆較少,亟需投入更多的研究,俾借助資通科技與數位環境,促進客家文化之發揚與傳播。客家文化資產數位網內容包含全國多間客家博物館之蒐藏以及許多存於民間的珍貴文化資產,內容相當豐富,但在各類型文化資產資料結構(欄位)的呈現上繁紛不一致,許多欄位的意義也難辨別,難以將豐碩的數位典藏內容完整展現於大眾眼前。為讓社會大眾得以深入鑽研客家文化深厚底蘊,本研究選擇以蒐藏多元的客

家文化資產數位網為案例,透過資料結構標準與客家數位典藏欄位之回顧,作為本研究分析的學理基礎資訊,接著以比較分析法進行欄位調整,再訪談客家學者、客發中心典藏人員與普查人員,檢視調整後欄位的合理性與適用性,最終整理出一套50個數位典藏詮釋資料欄位的客家文化資產數位網詮釋資料結構。研究結果顯示前述以「整合」為原則的客家文化資產數位網詮釋資料結構欄位,應能涵蓋表達客家文化資源重要資訊之需求。本研究最後依據研究結論提出客家博物館詮釋資料規劃的建議:(1)針對館內多種詮釋資料欄位可進行整合分析、(2)應為館內詮釋資料欄位編擬相關著錄規則、(3)確實區分欄位詮釋主體,避免著錄時的混淆、(4)適度開放民眾所需

的詮釋資料。依據上述建議,本研究另提出3點未來研究方向:(1)研究範圍拓展至客發中心所有的典藏作業、(2)納入資料內容標準與資料值標準進行探討(3)建置一套適用於全國客家博物館的詮釋資料標準。期望本研究成果可供客家博物館建置數位典藏時作參考之用。
